Ede Caretta Family Scholarship
The Ede Caretta Scholarship was established in 2022 in honor of Ede’s devotion to students experiencing difficulties or having special needs.
She was born Edith Rosemary Caretta on March 22, 1947 in Alliance to Ernest V. and Parma J.(Soviero) Caretta. Known all her life as Ede, she died February 14, 2022 at the age of 74.
Ede received her Bachelor of Science in Special Education from St. Mary’s College, returning to dedicate her 37-year career to her beloved students at Marlington High School.
She was a devout member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Catholic community. She cared deeply about her hometown of Alliance, and enjoyed volunteering at Alliance Woman’s Club, Alliance Catholic Worker, and belonged to the Alliance Area Retired Teacher Association. Ede cherished her many pets, and for those she couldn’t give a home, she found time to visit and play with them through volunteering at the local animal shelters. She attended book clubs and other events at Rodman Public Library, where she was well-known, and shared her passion for reading with others through the YWCA book community.
In honor of Ede’s heart for students and love of her family, this scholarship is awarded to students who have succeeded despite difficulties, or are pursuing a career in helping others.
