Wade and Audrey Fox Scholarship
Wade and Audrey Fox began their life together on March 15, 1947. Like so many of their generation, theirs was a story of hard work, sacrifice, and living below their means.
Wade worked in Audrey’s family grocery store for a short time, but when it became apparent that small family groceries were giving way to large supermarkets, the decision was made to close the store. Wade worked at B&W tube briefly, then in 1962 he found out about a job opportunity as a custodian at the newly opened Marlington High School. It was then he began his 27-year-long career at Marlington.
Wade took great pride in keeping the school clean and running smoothly, but what he loved most was the people. While eating his lunch, he spent his time pouring over the yearbooks, learning names and connecting people with their siblings, parents, and grandparents. Most students who attended Marlington when he was there remember the friendly custodian who greeted them with a smile and often remembered their names.
Audrey was always busy at home, keeping the house, family, and finances in order. When her children were all in school, she watched several other children in her home, two of which were children of Marlington teachers. Despite their humble situation, they managed to see all four of their children graduate from Malone College with degrees in education. Because education was so important to their parents, Denise, Paula, Dana, and Alan decided to fund a scholarship in their honor with a portion of the estate after Audrey’s death in 2025. This scholarship will be awarded to a student planning to pursue a degree in education.
